ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON WRITTEN AND PRACTICAL EXAMS

Answers to frequently asked questions regarding the written and practical exams to be held in accordance with the Regulation on Assessment and Evaluation of the Ministry of National Education, which came into force after being published on September 9, were published.

The Directorate General of Assessment and Evaluation shared detailed answers to 41 frequently asked questions regarding written and practical exams.

It was underlined that the Ministry has 3 different applications for common written exams; country, province/district and school-wide.

It was stated that in the 2023-2024 school year, the 1st term 2nd written exams and the 2nd term 1st written exams of 6th grade on Turkish and Mathematics courses will be held jointly. The 1st term 2nd written exams and 2nd term 1st written exams of 9th grade on Turkish language and Literature and Mathematics courses will also be held jointly. In addition to the exams determined by the Ministry for the 2023-2024 school year, joint written exams can also be held throughout the province or district. The subjects and grade levels of these exams will be announced by the directorates of national education.

Multiple choice questions will be used in the joint written exams to be held across the Ministry, province and district for this school year. Once the necessary infrastructure is prepared, open-ended questions can be used in these exams. The questions of all joint written exams and all other written exams will consist of open-ended or short-answer questions.

The questions of the joint written exams to be held by the Ministry will be prepared by the Directorate General of Assessment, and Examination Services and sent to schools. The exam will be administered by the teachers working at the school. The evaluation will be done by the school or directorates of assessment and evaluation center.

The only difference between the country and province-wide joint written exam application from the exams administered by teachers in schools is that the question and answer keys will be prepared centrally. The only source used for the joint written exam questions will be the textbooks and its' achievements. For this reason, these exams will have the same scope and difficulty level as the exams to be held at school. Students will not need to make any special preparations for joint written exams. Education will continue and schools will not be closed on the exam days and hours.

An exam analysis will be conducted by the course teachers after each exam. In case of  a common learning deficiency or lack of learning throughout the student, class and school, a feedback will be given to the students in order to compensate for these losses and deficiencies. The student will see their scores out of 100 through the e-School system.

The exams on Turkish, Turkish language and literature and foreign language courses will be held as written and practical in two stages. Written exams will be held first and practical exams will be held second for these courses in order to measure listening and speaking skills, with enough time allocated for each student.

Practical exams will be held to measure listening and speaking skills and graded separately.
