Minister Avcı voiced his wish that the protocol will be a blessing during the ceremony held on the occasion of signing of the protocol in the central building of the Ministry of National Education.

Noting that the two ministers have signed a supplementary protocol to the treaty which was signed with the TRNC in 2009, Minister Avcı said that the protocol will eliminate the uncertainties concerning the status of students studying in universities located in Cyprus.

Minister Avcı stated that Cyprus has been attracting international students adding that:

“TRNC has been playing host to a successful amount of foreign student population despite the unfair reaction of international community and the recognition problem. This of course gives an idea about the quality of education provided in the universities located in the TRNC. It is clear that they have succeeded in founding a healthy, deep-rooted and open minded higher education system. This allowed the formation of well-based university infrastructure. As the Republic of Turkey, we are working on projects that will increase the attraction of these universities. This attraction will also be reflected on Turkey.”

Meanwhile, TRNC’s Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst s thanked his counterpart Minister Avcı for his support to initiate the protocol.

Noting that citizens living in the TRNC have taken their power from the support of Turkey, Minister Dürüst said the people of TRNC will live in peace as long as it enjoys the support of the Republic of Turkey.

Minister Dürüst stated that Cyprus is becoming an island of education adding that, “This protocol will allow students from the Republic of Turkey who are coming in thousands every year to have the same rights with the TRNC students in the universities of the TRNC.”
